Effective February 6, 2010, holidays will be paid at 9 hours, starting with the holiday of Presidents Day, Monday February 15, 2010.
Before the 4-10’s, full-time employees received 8 hours for 11 holidays, at a total of 88 hours. During the 4-10 pilot period even with taking away Columbus Day employees received 10 hours for 10 holidays, at a total of 100 hours. By going to 9 hour holidays, employees will receive 10 holidays at 90 holiday hours, this means they still get 2 extra hours per year in contrast to the days of 5-8’s. The solution to this holiday problem was voted on May 2009 when an employee survey that outlined the 9 hour holiday, leave bucket, and reduced annual and sick leave options resulting in a majority in favor of the 9 hour holiday option.
We have created the following documents of three different work schedules to show how 9 hour holidays will affect employees.
● 4-10’s Schedule working Monday thru Thursday
● 4-10’s Schedule working Tuesday thru Friday
● 5-8’s Schedule working Monday thru Friday
We have also included two Calendars for 2010 Holidays and Pay Periods and two Calculators to help you with holiday planning. All these documents were created as tools (not requirements) to help you plan for 9 hour holidays. If one tool doesn't make sense try another tool or consult with your agency HR office.
