July 24th Holiday Information
This year the 24th of July falls on a Saturday, which according to rules, means that the holiday is observed on Friday, July 23 instead. Offices will not be closed on Thursday, July 22, so employees on a 4-10 work schedule will need to make arrangements with their supervisor to take a day off that same week (if they are non-exempt) or that same pay period (if they are exempt).
The confusion that is most likely to occur revolves around which pay period is affected. July 23 (the observed holiday) falls in pay period 14, while the actual holiday falls in pay period 15. Time must be adjusted in pay period 14 in order for employees not to accrue any excess time. If the time is taken in pay period 15 instead, the employee will accrue excess in pay period 14 and will be short hours in pay period 15.
